Every chapter follows the same shape, so once you know where things sit on the page you can find them without reading around them.

• What the record confirms. The facts of the game that can be checked, set out first and kept separate from everything that follows.
• Who shaped it. The players the game actually turned on, named rather than listed.
• How it unfolded. The narrative of how the game really went, in the order it happened.
• Grades. The ones who mattered, scored out of ten.
• The verdict. A signed opinion, in the first person, on what the game meant.

The grades are opinions. They are meant to be argued with.

Who this is for, and who it is not for

How this was put together

The games were chosen first and the writing came second. The postseason games largely chose themselves, because they were the ones that decided something. The 15 regular season afternoons had to earn a place next to January.

A few rules were set before a word was written, and they held all the way through.

Fact and opinion are kept apart. Scores, dates and the sequence of what happened are matters of public record. The commentary, the grades and the verdicts are the author’s own. The book never dresses one up as the other, and neither does this page.

Where a detail could not be verified it was left out rather than guessed at. That is why the chapters are not identical to each other. It is the difference between a fact that could be checked and one that could not.

Nobody is quoted. There are no broadcast calls, no press conference lines, no player interviews, no sentences lifted from anywhere. Every line in the book was written rather than collected.

There are no photographs. Not of players, not of uniforms, not of stadiums. The book is text, and this page says so before you pay rather than after.

The grades are argued, not assigned. Each one carries a line saying why. A 10 has to be defended in the same space as a 2.

No credentials are claimed. It is written by someone who watches these games and analyses them, and that is the whole of the qualification on offer. This book does not ask you to trust a person. It asks you to read one chapter about a game you already watched and decide whether the reading of it is better than yours. If it is not, the refund is below.

What is not in this book?

Box scores. A statistical line for every player who appeared. Play by play. Advanced metrics. Photographs of players, uniforms or stadiums. Quotations from anybody. And any game from 2025 that is not one of the 30. What it carries is what the record confirms, who shaped each game, how it unfolded, the grades and the verdicts.

Is the game I care about in it?

Does it cover the regular season, or only the postseason?

Both. 15 postseason games and 15 regular season games. The regular season afternoons were chosen for what happened in them.

Are the grades objective?

No, and the book says so. They are one person’s opinion, scored out of ten, written to be argued with. The reasoning sits next to each grade, so you can see it and reject it on the same page.

Will this help me predict anything, or bet on a game?

No. Every game in this book has already been played. It makes no predictions, it is not a betting guide, and nothing in it is aimed at a game that has not happened yet.
